Kallen Catch Up – 1 Month

Since we sort of kept him a secret from our online presence until his adoption was really close to being finalized, I’ve got quite a bit to catch up on.  I’ve got a post for each month of his life coming up this week.  He turned 4 months old on February 10th and it is crazy to me how much he has grown and changed already! So, the recaps start now. (Or at least as much of them as I can remember.)

ONE MONTH

Because Kallen was a surprise addition (meaning, though we obviously knew we were adopting, we only had about a 2 days notice of him joining our family), I worked the first 2 weeks of bringing him home before going out on maternity leave.

Those early days were insane. I remember him eating 13 times in a 24 hour period on multiple occasions. To say we were sleep deprived would almost be an understatement. But, this sweet face is totally worth it. There were lots and lots of baby snuggles, the girls fought over whose turn it was to hold him, we had SO MANY family and friends bring or send us gifts and just ask how they could help out. Though we had ZERO boy clothes just a few days earlier, soon Kallen’s wardrobe was filled out and thankfully he was never forced to wear pink or flowers.  A friend from work set up a Meal Train for us, and we had meals brought over. It really does take a village and we are so thankful for ours.

We are all in love – especially the two big sisters. From Day 1 they were all about their baby brother. And even now, 4 months later, they are so sweet with him. Now that the girls are older, they lead our bedtime prayers, and they almost always include “Thank you, God, for giving us a baby brother.” We are so very blessed.

For the first month, Kallen consistently ate 2-3oz every 2 hours. Every now and then we would get a 3 hour stretch and it would feel fantastic. Those 2 hour feeding intervals were just enough time to get a bottle ready, feed the baby, get the baby to sleep, get back in bed, sleep for about 30 min, and then do it all over again. Not gonna lie, the newborn days are rough. I think that’s why you sort of forget them after you get past that stage.

Maybe because his belly was always full, Kallen brought us his first smiles before he was even a month old, and he hasn’t stopped smiling since. He saves the best ones for his Mama. I am not complaining!

Here is Kallen at one month old, back on November 10th. We all had a great laugh over the fact that he did not have eyebrows for quite some time. He had little white places where the eyebrows should be so you could see where they would come in eventually, and they did eventually come in!

Look at that sweet ONE month old! Isn’t he the best?
