Growing A Garden

Karsten has always been my little green thumb. She has a love for plants like no other kid that I have ever been around. She loves to water my flowers, pick flowers and generally just be working in the yard. She has begged for YEARS for us to plant a garden but we knew we didn’t have time for one.

But this year, Kevin built her a little raised bed garden. It was a lot of work and an act of love… and she is LOVING it. Kallen loved being a little helper while the planter was being built.

Did you catch the sign above? “Karsten’s Vegetables. Grown with Love.”  I mean really. No words for this kid.

We planted some strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers and a few lettuce back on May 15th.

A week later, and it looked like the plants had already grown a good bit!

Within no time at all, one of the tomato plants already had a few tiny green tomatoes. These pictures were taken May 29th.

Each evening, Karsten has helped water the garden but Kallen has also loved running back there to see what has grown and to check on everything.

And this week, after we got back from vacation, Karsten had her very first harvest. We’re not done yet but it’s been such a fun project for her, as well as for the rest of us.
