Soccer Season – Take 2

So back in the spring, I’d signed Karsten up for soccer. She was SO excited. We bought the cleats, the shin guards, and the soccer ball and she was ready to go! And after all of 2 practices, the season was cancelled. Thanks COVID.

Thankfully, the league that we played with decided that they were going to find a way to make a Fall season work. And they did!

All of the parents wore masks, and we had to spread out. They also took out one of the fields so there was more space between games. Other than that, it was a pretty normal, and fun, season.

This year Kate decided to play too. This was her first soccer season since she was 4 years old (and she’s 9 now). I’m so glad she decided to play. She had a BLAST! I really think that Kate enjoyed it more than Karsten. She was on a very good team and I don’t think they lost a game all season. She was so proud to tell us that her team were the champions!

Karsten was also on a pretty good team, but she was the youngest. She was just 5 when the season started and a lot of the other players were as old as 8. She ended up playing defense a lot, and because her team had some good players, the ball literally never came to her end of the field. She is a social butterfly though so she and the other few kids who played defense were often doing lots of non-soccer things. One game I looked back there and they were all trying to make fart noises with their armpits, and every single one of them had their backs turned away from the game.

But the main thing is, they both said they had a lot of fun! And both have asked to play again in the spring. We’re just over here saying a prayer that a spring season WILL happen this year!
