Growing Pains – Braces!
In early January, we took Kate to the orthodontist for a consultation. Like a lot of kids, it appeared that braces may be in her future at some point so our dentist just suggested we go ahead and do an initial consult.
We loved the orthodontist, and he said her teeth are actually in pretty great shape (with the exception of ONE problem tooth.) One of her top incisors came in a little too far back, and when she bites down, it actually goes behind her bottom teeth. The dentist said that the tooth is essentially “locked” in place, and won’t move to the front of her bite without braces. He suggested she go ahead and get them now for 6-8 months and this MAY prevent her from needing braces for a long period of time down the road.
So a few weeks later, that’s what we did. Here is her before….
And her after. She picked purple and pink for the first set of rubber bands.
The goal is to have braces OFF by the time she starts 4th grade. I’m also slightly in denial that I’m typing about having a 4th grader soon. Are we in some kind of time warp? This girl is growing quickly, and I love her so!
