A Little Background on Kallen’s Adoption

It will probably take me quite a while to go through his entire story, but let me back up a bit because I never actually even mentioned it on here that we were in the process of adopting again!

We first requested the paperwork from our agency (Bethany Christian Services) a few years ago.  And then we sat on it for a while and didn’t do a thing. The timing just didn’t seem quite right for us. Then in 2018 we decided to go ahead and turn in the initial paperwork and sign a contract. A few months after that, Kevin was offered a job in my home town and it just seemed like God was pulling us in that direction.  So we placed the adoption on hold and we moved.

Pretty quickly we realized that we had made a mistake and since we had not sold our house, we decided to move BACK. Let me just add, looking back, Kevin and I both feel like the move was not a mistake. That it truly was God working in our lives that moved us away and then back in such a short period of time. He moved us out of some things that we needed to move on from, and he has worked in our lives SO MUCH in the last 2 years. God is sovereign and even when things felt out of control, we knew that HE was in control.  However, in the middle of all of the crazy, it was definitely not the time to add another baby to our family.

Well in the beginning of 2020, the timing felt right! (This was definitely before COVID hit the US!)  We turned in our paperwork again to our agency and finally got the ball rolling!  Once COVID shut everything down, the home study process really started crawling and took a bit longer than we anticipated. We ended up having a few Zoom meetings with our social worker, but at least for at least a period of time, our agency wasn’t allowing their social workers to visit homes. That meant our home study couldn’t get completed until they started allowing home visits again.  However, we finally got everything finished and officially became a waiting and active family with our agency in late June of 2020.

And then… just like with Kate… and just like with Karsten… we waited!
