First Day of “School” for Karsten

Karsten is officially a school kid.  Well, sort of.  We enrolled her in a parent’s day out program at the church where Kate attended preschool the last two years.  It will just be one day a week, but I think (and hope) that she is going to love it!  Two weeks ago we had “meet the teacher”.

(This picture is only posted because of those curls! I love them so much.)

We basically just went to see where her classroom is and meet her teacher. Since Kate only attended 3K and 4K at this church, we didn’t know any of the PDO teachers.  I wondered how Karsten would do but since Kevin and I were with her, she walked right in and started playing with the other kids right away!

Last Tuesday was her first official day of “school”, which goes from 9am until 2pm.  We pack her a lunch, and they take naps on a mat.  (Yeah right – I don’t see that working for Karsten anytime soon since she is still in a crib.)
It’s a crazy busy time of year for me at work but there was no way I was going to miss taking her on the first day of school, so I ended up going in late to work.  I walked her in and as we got to the door of the school one of the administrators was there greeting everyone.  She said hey to us, and I told Karsten to say hey back and to tell them her name.  Well, apparently she figured out what was going on because she wrapped her arms and legs around me and held on so hard as if to say “Don’t put me down! Don’t leave me!”  The ladies laughed and said “Guess she figured out what’s happening here!”
When we got to her room, I put her down and she walked right in!  I was shocked but she only took about 4 steps into the room and then turned around and ran right back to me. She figured out that I was leaving her but after a little prompting, she went back into the classroom on her own and I snuck away.

She is definitely our shy, reserved, clingy kid, but it only lasts for a little while. Once she warms up to you, she is most definitely not shy, quiet or reserved!  I’m praying this school year is a GREAT one for her, and that she makes lots of friends and has lots of fun.
