All Aboard the Polar Express!

Picture overload coming up! The week before Christmas, my parents gave us a Christmas gift of a family trip to the Polar Express. This is something we had never done with the girls before, but knew that they would love it. It did not disappoint!

Kristi, Davis, Rylynn, my parents, and my family met up for lunch on a Friday and then we all drove up to Bryson City, NC (wearing our pajamas, of course!) We had a 5:30 departure time and it was perfect. The sun was still out so we could see the scenery out of our windows, and on the way back it was dark so we could see Christmas lights in “Santa’s Village” and on the houses along the river.

Here are the girls, with their golden tickets, all ready to board the Polar Express!

For those that are new to the Polar Express (like we were), when you first get to your seat, you’ll see sitting at your seat a chocolate candy bar. Once the train starts moving, the servers come by with a large mug of hot chocolate, which is then followed by a huge chocolate chip cookie. I think you’re starting to get the chocolate theme on this train. Needless to say, it was all much appreciated by the kids!

Our initial booths were back to back, but our train wasn’t completely full so we got to switch around and be side-by-side with my parents and Kristi’s family.

The servers (who were also actors) went through the whole Polar Express book, led us in singing Christmas Carols, and did an overall great job of entertaining everyone. And then…. Santa!

Santa asked the kids what they wanted. Kate quickly said a guitar, which we knew. And then it was Karsten’s turn. Karsten had been adamant in saying that she wanted a ukulele up to this point, but when Santa stopped by to ask what gift she wanted, Karsten looked up at him and said “I want a skateboard, with JETS!”

All in all, it was such a fun trip and one I would recommend when you have little kids. And also, so much fun to get to go do it with family and create all of those memories.
